Setting Up Natasha's Law Compliance
This guide shows how to configure LabelFood to meet UK Natasha’s Law (Food Information Amendment 2019) requirements for PPDS (Pre-Packaged for Direct Sale) allergen labelling.
What is Natasha’s Law?
Section titled “What is Natasha’s Law?”Natasha’s Law requires all food businesses to clearly label the 14 allergens on every food item that is pre-packaged for direct sale (PPDS). This applies to food prepared on the premises and packaged before a customer orders it.
Step 1: Set Your Active Allergens
Section titled “Step 1: Set Your Active Allergens”- Go to Settings → Allergens in the cloud dashboard
- Toggle on all allergens that are present in any of your products
If you handle an allergen in your kitchen, it should be toggled on — this ensures it appears on labels when set on a product.
Step 2: Add Allergens to Every Product
Section titled “Step 2: Add Allergens to Every Product”Every product in your catalogue must have its allergens set:
- Go to Products
- Open the product or add a new one
- Select all allergens present in that product
- Save the product
All 14 allergens that apply must be selected — even trace amounts.
Step 3: Verify Labels Print Allergens Correctly
Section titled “Step 3: Verify Labels Print Allergens Correctly”- Print a label for a product with allergens set
- Check that allergens appear in bold on the printed label
- All 14 allergens present in the product should be listed
Step 4: Prepare Records for an EHO Inspection
Section titled “Step 4: Prepare Records for an EHO Inspection”When an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) visits:
- Go to Wastage in the cloud dashboard
- Select the date range covering the inspection period
- Contact our support team to request a formatted compliance report
- Provide the report to the EHO
